“Angels We Have Heard on High” is a carol of invitation. After watching the shepherds rejoice in the jubilation of their Savior’s birth, the song invites us to come:
Come to Bethlehem and see
Him Whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee,
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.
See Him in a manger laid,
Whom the choirs of angels praise;
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
While our hearts in love we raise.
The famous chorus that resounds, “Gloria in Excelsis Deo!” is a Latin phrase that means “Glory to God in the Highest!” It comes from the scene of Luke 2:14, when the shepherds were surrounded by a multitude of heavenly host that flooded the sky. The truth of Christ’s coming brought forth the only logical response: worship. Their joy burst forth in adoring praise. This carol invites us to do the same!
About the Musician
Christi Stills embarked on her journey of “composing” music at a young age. Being an only child in a quiet home opened many doors for imagination and creativity. After years of learning through opportunities mostly in church settings/music ministry, she discovered that others were interested in listening to her hymn arrangements. She recorded a couple of CD’s, and transcribed the arrangements onto sheet music – which can be found at sheetmusicplus.com. Currently, her recordings can be heard on Spotify, Apple Music, and other major streaming platforms. In other windows of her schedule, Christi enjoys drinking coffee, reading, hiking, tutoring kids who learn “outside-the-box,” and continues to create new tunes upon every opportunity that arises.
