Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. (Matthew 10:29-31)
Inspired by the scripture in Matthew, this classic hymn reminds us that our very sustenance is from the Lord and His providence. The Holy Spirit, our Paraclete in daily trials and tribulations, sustains us by His loving Word, His powerful hand, and His good will. The hymn reminds us that:
Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
